Set Design & Construction / Theater Technology at CHS

Pathway Overview

In the Theater Technology pathway, students learn all that goes into making a staged production. Students will gain experience building props and scenery, designing lighting, sound and makeup, creating costumes and painting sets for high quality school productions.

Career Outlook

With a strong and growing film industry in NM, there are excellent opportunities in this area right in our own back yard. This program is an introduction to the world of "behind-the-scenes" and "backstage" in the Entertainment Industry. Colleges have seen the value of these programs and many, including CNM, UNM and NMSU, have all expanded their programs in theatrical design, film and video production to accommodate the thriving film industry here in New Mexico. Some students have gone on to post secondary schooling to further their studies while others have gone directly into the field through some of the apprenticeship programs offered by entities such as the Carpenter's Union and Electrician's Union.
